It’s that time of year again where everyone starts setting New Years resolutions. Whilst the start of a new year is an excellent time to set new goals for yourself there are some things you need to consider.

When setting goals it’s important to think about why you want to achieve it. If it’s only to make other people happy, then I would suggest rethinking it. Writing down your specific goal is a vital step, but remember to also write down why you set it, how you plan on reaching it and when you want to reach it by.

Try using the acronym SMART when deciding on your goal. This will help you set more achievable goals with a plan on how to achieve them.
  • S - specific
  • M - Measurable
  • A - Achievable
  • R - Realistic
  • T - Timely

Most peoples New Years resolutions are health or fitness based, but they don’t need to be, it could be learning something new, or giving up a ‘bad habit’. Think about what is important to you and what you would like to achieve this year.

Remember it takes 3weeks for something to become a habit, so keep yourself motivated, seek professional help from a trainer or nutritionist to keep you on track.

Happy New Year!
